The Bible is full of verses that talk about God taking you on a straight path. That the ways of the wicked are crooked and the ways of righteousness are straight. But last year, a friend of mine brought a peculiar verse to my attention. In Lamentations 3:9 it says “He has barred my way with blocks of stone; he has made my paths crooked.”
He has made my paths crooked.
Now, obviously God does not take us on sinful paths. But in my life God has taken me on many twists and turns. I’ve gone down paths I never thought I’d go down.
This year God has done so many unexpected and exciting things. From writing my first book to touring the country with OUTCRY I have experienced some amazing paths in my journey. But looking back the thing that led me to this path was being faithful in the previous, less-fun paths. Being faithful in the crooked paths God takes you on, leads to finding new and exciting paths. I walked paths of local church life that left me frustrated and confused. I’ve walked on paths of debilitating health issues. Fearful paths. Frustratingly stagnant and boring paths I thought would never end. But I kept walking.[pullquote align=”left” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Being faithful in the crooked paths God takes you on, leads to finding new and exciting paths.[/pullquote]
Maybe you are walking a path you never thought you would have to. Maybe a new diagnosis or a twist in your job you didn’t see coming. Keep walking! Be faithful to walk the path in front of you. It will build something in you that you may never know you needed.
